UZLS/UZLSI type electronic glow-starters are designed for starting high-pressure sodium-discharge and metal-halide lamps with power from 35 to 400 (1000)W. Using the starter guarantees very short ignition time (less than 5s) of both hot and cold lamp. After ignition the starter imposes no load to the lamp circuit, as it is automatically disconnected to minimise power losses.

The device is enclosed in an aesthetic, corrosion and impact resistant cylindrical plastic case. It has a built-in LED helping to locate faults in the lamp ignition circuit. Flashing of the diode indicates the frequency at which the circuit generates high-voltage impulses, while continuous lumination indicates fault-free operation of the starter and the ballast circuit.

Glow-starters are manufactured in different versions. Generally, they can be classified as devices to be connected in parallel (with two cables) or in series-parallel (with three cables).

- sodium-discharge and metal-halide lamps:
UZLSI-3 (100-1000W)

- sodium-discharge and metal-halide lamps:
UZLSI-4 (35-70W)
UZLSI-4/1 (100-400W)
